Scrub Training Academy Education and Training: Expanding Access to ATLS Courses in Namibia
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is a standardized training program developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) designed to teach doctors and healthcare providers a systematic, concise approach to the early management of trauma patients.
Target Audience
• Physicians (especially in emergency medicine, surgery, anesthesia)
• Advanced practice providers (e.g., nurse practitioners, physician assistants)
• Occasionally open to paramedics or medical trainees, depending on regional policies
Course Objectives
• Perform rapid assessment and initial management of trauma patients
• Prioritize treatment of life-threatening injuries
• Improve critical decision-making in the "golden hour"
• Apply a structured approach using the ABCDE primary survey
Course Format
• Pre-course self-study: Review the ATLS manual and complete online modules
• 2-day in-person training:
• Didactic lectures
• Practical skill stations (airway management, chest decompression, etc.)
• Simulated trauma scenarios
• Written and practical exams
Duration: 2 Days
Prerequisites
• Course is only for Medical Doctors
• Full fee payment of N$18,000.00 is required (does not include travel or accommodation coverings)
Cancellation policy:
• Fees refund fully if cancellation 30 days before the course date
• 50% refund if the cancellation up to 20 days from the course
• No refund if cancellation less than 10 days from the course
